What Are We About?

We are a collection of industry veterans who have had enough. We share a collective thought. We are not

  • Staff writers who never finish games.
  • Children who were born post-doom and think the PlayStation 2 is retro.

Honesty is the engine powering Harsh Gaming. Therefore we will give you our most honest opinion. That does not mean being harsh for the sake of it, but rather a constructive criticism of our passion.

We will not be the quickest news poster nor will we be posting the first review of Halo 4. Harsh Gaming is all about the games and the educated, logical ideas that surround them. Move on if you expect “Why the PS3 sucks.” Why is only word relevant there and we will be using it in its correct sense.

Our Review Process:

Scoring a game in any form is ludicrous as it requires comparison to other games. Every game will be looked at as an independent entity, even sequels. We ask you to read our reviews. If you’re searching for a yes or no, then anything that gets our seal of approval (as highlighted by our logo) should be worthy of a purchase. Anything else should be for genre enthusiasts only, if that.

The Harsh Gaming ”Review” Seal of Approval.

  • We will tell you how much we paid for a game (no review samples here).
  • Its platform.
  • The time we played (whether we finished it or not).
  • Our thoughts laid out in Overreaction.

Retro:

We are a firm believer in history. Without it you cannot fully understand where you are going. As a result, we will be continually visiting the past. It should be a law that before you play a modern game (and discuss it), that you’ve played a certain amount of titles from a set ‘classic’ roster. Doom 2 CO-OP, Baldur’s Game or Road Rash to name just a few. Be sure to visit The Good Old Days.

News-desk:

‘News’ has always been a bit boring.  Apart from giving you headlines to mouth water over, we will be telling you why we have written about them. Why is the announcement of Colin McCrae DiRT so fascinating? Why should the latest images of European Truck Simulator excite? Eye Candy, Breaking It and Raised Eyebrows are there to prepare you for your latest spending spree.

Say What?

Ever disagreed with a review? Tell us about it. Feel free to rant and rave at us by leaving comments. Rude, unnecessary insults will be deleted. In Literary Criticism you read an article, take it and react to it. We will be doing the same. If we read something on IGN, watch a review on GameTrailers or smell something fishing at GameSpot you will find it in our Criticising the Critics. It’s not personal and we do not have any vendettas, but some things are just worth bringing your attention to. The same applies to Press Start, our general Editorial pieces.
